A little extra support to stay at home
If you want to continue living in your own home but need a little extra support to look after yourself, the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) may be suitable for you.
The Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) helps senior Australians access entry level support services to live independently and safely at home. This type of government funding lets you choose from a set menu of services that help you with daily or weekly tasks such as household cleaning, preparing meals, garden upkeep, personal care or getting to your appointments. You only pay for the services you use and you can dip in and out of the program as you need support.
Meals and other food services | Pre-made meals and help with food preparation |
Personal care | Help with showering, self-care, hygiene and grooming |
Domestic assistance | Help with basic chores around the house |
Transport | Community transport or vouchers to attend appointments or activities |
Social support | Contact and company with others e.g. social groups |
Eligibility for this program is based on your support needs and age.
To be eligible for this program, you must be aged:
How much will it cost?
If you are eligible, you’re expected to contribute to the cost of your care if you can afford to. The cost depends on the type of support. Simple services like house cleaning and meals might cost a few dollars.
